Over the past 5 years the animal welfare organizations have strived to reduce the euthanasia rate in Mecklenburg County. Partnership for pets knows that the state of animal welfare should include surrounding counties and hopes to unite and spread this effort to ultimately achieve a no kill model for North and South Carolina.
From Charlotte-Mecklenburg alone, the intake numbers from 2012 were 17,880 animals with a 60% euthanasia rate. For 2017 the intake was 11,607 with the euthanasia rate dropping to 30%. There is still work to do in our community and we ask you to be a part of the solution.
